The powerful and influential Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is calling for the Tea Party to be eradicated:
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCS) is the Democratic Party’s chief fundraising committee dedicated to electing Democratic candidates to the U.S. Senate. Its budget exceeds $50 million, according to Open Secrets.
Beyond a number of politicians in the House and Senate, the Tea Party does not have a significant presence within the federal government. It is not entirely clear if the DSCS is merely calling for the expulsion of the Tea Party Caucus chaired by Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, or the movement as a whole.
The Tea Party movement, while supported in part by Republicans, is not an official political party. The movement is primarily comprised of an informal affiliation of national and local groups that determine their own platforms and agendas sans central leadership.
Many members of the movement, including those within the Tea Party Patriots and the Tea Party Express, mistrust establishment Republicans as well as Democrats.
There does not appear to be a petition, however, on the DSCS website to match the rhetoric of the above tweet.
1. Good luck with that.
2. We only attack what we fear.
