In a September 14 statement, Ford CEO Mark Fields insisted that in the “next two to three years, we will have migrated all of our small car production to Mexico and out of the United States.”
Fields added that Ford is investing an additional $4.5 billion to develop electric vehicles by 2020, most of which will be spent in its Mexico facilities. The company also said all emerging small car models will be made south of the border.
And ya know what? People will still lean on the hoods of their Fords and run their mouths at me about their “American” car, and excuse it by saying “At least it’s an American company!”
I had to wait for three weeks for a part for a Ford van one time, I’ll never forget it. It was a common part on a van that was used for working… and that was a hard working van. We couldn’t afford the three weeks without this van, but we didn’t have a choice. Why did it take so long? Because we had to wait for the part to come from Italy. Sadly, it wasn’t the last part we had to wait for as it was shipped from Italy, because that wasn’t our only Ford van.
When I tell this to people, I get, “But it’s an American company!” Yeah, well so what? Your Ford isn’t any better than my Toyota was or my Mazda is. And my old Honda was more made in Ohio than your Ford was in Michigan. It may be an American owned company, but who’s getting the paychecks? I know my car was made in Japan. That isn’t a secret. Can you tell me how much of your Ford was made in the USA? If you want to brag and think you’re better than me, bring it.
What are you going to say now? They’re picking up and moving down to Mexico, bringing the jobs with them, because it won’t cost as much to produce a car. But you can bet your backside they aren’t going to charge you less for them! And it still isn’t going to last any longer, either.
But hey, at least the company is owned by Americans, right? Who cares if a crap ton of people are going to lose their jobs and the paychecks are going to Mexico? It’s an American company! Good enough! Stay brand loyal. *insert eye roll here*
