The approximately 65 million Democrats who voted for Hillary Clinton should pledge that in the future if a Republican wins the presidency with fewer votes than a Democrat for the third time in our era, we won’t pay taxes to the federal government. No taxation without representation!
OK, first off, if that’s the game we’re playing, I want a refund on my taxes for the last eight years.
Secondly, WE ARE NOT A DEMOCRACY. I have explained this time and again, and the folks in our media really need to read up on it. There is a major distinction between a democracy and a republic, and we are a republic. The reason the states vote for president and not the people is so that we don’t have two or three highly populated states ruling over the rest of the country. What may work out swell in the big city isn’t going to work out so well for people in rural areas, and vice versa.
Popular vote would mean that the other 47 or 48 states are not being represented at all. The Founding Fathers realized this, hence the republic instead of the democracy.
That’s the down side of needing to live in clusters so your opinions are always validated by those around you. But the system does benefit the USA as a whole. If you don’t like it, you’ve been told what to do before. Find another country. Those of us those other 47 or 48 states have nowhere else to go, but you do! We’ll keep our country, you go find yourself a new one since you hate it so much.
