Chuck Schumer Has a 3-Point Plan If Jeff Sessions Won’t Resign

“There’s nothing inappropriate with a senator meeting with the Russian ambassador. There is something very inappropriate to dramatically mislead Congress.”

Schumer added that he believes the following should happen:

  • Sessions must recuse himself so that any and all ties to Russian connections with the Trump campaign can be investigated by a special prosecutor with “real experience and unimpeachable impartiality.”
  • Without a special prosecutor, Democrats will “urge Senator McConnell and Speaker Ryan to work with Democrats to create a new and improved version of the independent counsel law, which would give a three-judge panel the authority to appoint an independent counsel.”
  • The Inspector General for the Department of Justice should begin an immediate investigation into Sessions’ previous involvement in the investigation “to discover if the investigation has already been compromised.”

“The main point I am making here is we need an investigation to get to the bottom of this,” Schumer added. “Better for the country if he resigns, but let’s get a real investigation.”

The problem with all of this is that they so desperately wanted him to not be confirmed that now, even if Sessions was wrong and/or did something he shouldn’t have, mislead Congress, etc., people are less open to the idea because it just looks like yet another Democratic hissy fit. Because of the Dem tantrums, people are just rolling their eyes.

I have no idea if Sessions did something wrong here. Honestly, none of us have any way of really knowing. But I know the first reaction of a lot of people was not a deep consideration; it was a loud eye roll. And no matter what any investigation says, no one is going to believe it is being done fairly or for honest and moral reasons.

That’s how you divide a nation.
