A North Carolina mother says her 5-year-old daughter was suspended from school after she was found playing with a stick that resembled a gun.
Brandy Miller said her daughter Caitlin was suspended for one day on Friday after she and her two friends were playing “King and Queen” at her school in Hoke County, North Carolina, ABC affiliate WTVD reported Tuesday.
In the game, Caitlin played a guard, protecting the royals, and picked up the “stick gun” to imitate shooting an intruder into the kingdom.
Here’s a picture of the kid holding a photo of the stick.
It’s a stick! The kid found a stick on the playground and picked it up. She didn’t whittle a gun like figure out of the stick. She picked it up off the ground like that. I guess we should be thankful they didn’t evacuate the school when someone found it on the ground.
She was suspended for playing with a stick that looked like a gun, and for apparently threatening to shoot other students. Because… yeah, this friggin’ five year old is going to kill us all with her magical shooting stick.
(It is more believable that he fired a double barrel shotgun three times without a reload than it is that this girl and her stick were a threat)
What bothers me about this is that this kid is going to have on her record that she was suspended for a weapons violation. That could effect her ability to get into college, or even one of the specialized high schools. Because of a stick.
