OK, so by now, you all know that there was a shooting this morning while the GOP practiced for a charity baseball game. Steve Scalise is in critical condition.
“Congressman Steve Scalise sustained a single rifle shot to the left hip. The bullet traveled across his pelvis, fracturing bones, injuring internal organs, and causing severe bleeding,” MedStar said in a statement put out by Scalise’s office. “He underwent immediate surgery, and an additional procedure to stop bleeding. He has received multiple units of blood transfusion. His condition is critical, and he will require additional operations. We will provide periodic updates.”
Five others were also injured in the shooting, which was carried out by James Hodgkinson, 66, of Belleville, Illinois. He apparently really flipped his lid that Bernie wasn’t elected president so we could become Venezuela.
Ever since then, there has been all kinds of stories! So let’s discuss some of those for now.
There was this:

I’m shocked crazy lefties are celebrating someone getting shot. Are you shocked? I’m shocked. /sarc
Of course, there’s also folks claiming that a lot of the rhetoric by media and Hollywood celebrities is also fueling the fire of violence. Which I can’t discredit considering the amount of people who do things they see in movies and TV shows and the amount of people who are shocked when said things go wrong.
Shortly after the shooting, there was this:
The office of Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-N.Y.) received a threatening email with the subject line “One down, 216 to go…,” shortly after a shooter opened fire on GOP lawmakers who were at a congressional baseball practice, according to her office.
The person who sent the email then wrote in the body of the email, “Did you NOT expect this?”
“Did you NOT expect this? When you take away ordinary peoples very lives in order to pay off the wealthiest among us, your own lives are forfeit. Certainly, your souls and morality were lost long before. Good riddance,” the email said.

You really shouldn’t talk about morality when you’ve decided the death penalty is called for when you don’t like law changes. I assume this is about healthcare. OK. How the heck did you survive before Obama created another entitlement?
According to Virginia’s governor, 93 million Americans are killed by gun violence every day!!!!! Holy crap! Are you guys reading this behind some ballistic plating, because apparently you really need to!
But let’s not just talk about the bad guy and the crazy coming from the extreme left.
There were heroes. Some of them went to the hospital, too. Thank you for risking your life for a fellow human being, regardless of political party. The elected Dems get a nod, too, for not being complete jack wagons after the shooting. They managed to act like adults today, and we appreciate that. Nancy Pelosi gave a rather strange speech, but it ended up being a nice one. Bernie got up and had something to say. He needs to, some of his supporters are losing their stuff. Again, it’s not a gun thing. It’s a crazy person with intent to kill by any means necessary. Be it a gun, a knife, or a truck, or any other means they come by.
Question: Congressman, does this change your views on the gun situation in America?
Brooks: Not with respect to the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment right to bear arms is to ensure that we will always have a republic. And as with any constitutional provision in the Bill of Rights, there are adverse aspects to each of those rights that we enjoy as people. And what we just saw here is one of the bad side effects of someone not exercising those rights properly. But we’re not going to get rid of freedom of speech because some people say some really ugly things that hurt other people’s feelings. We’re not going to get rid of Fourth Amendment search and seizure rights because it allows some criminals to go free who should be behind bars. These rights are there to protect Americans, and while each of them has a negative aspect to them, they are fundamental to our being the greatest nation in world history. So no, I’m not changing my position on any of the rights we enjoy as Americans. With respect to this particular shooter, I’d really like to know more about him — whether he was an ex-felon, by way of example, who should not have had possession of a firearm — I’d like to know other things about his background before I pass judgment.
