White House Announces Plan to Privatize Air Traffic Control System

NPR has more on the proposed structure of the new organization:

Guided by legislation that has been proposed in the past by House Transportation Committee chairman Bill Shuster, a private, non-profit corporation would be created to operate, manage and control ATC nationwide, similar to what Canada does. The FAA would still have some oversight capacity, but a board made up mostly of representatives of the major airlines would govern this corporation.

Fox News quoted a leader of a pilots association endorsing Trump’s announcement:

“We support privatization,” said Jon Weeks, a pilot and president of the Southwest pilots association, who attended the Oval Office announcement on Monday.

“We just want a stabilized stream of funding for air traffic control,” said Weeks, echoing what airlines and the controllers union have said for years.

I can get behind this. To be fair, I can behind privatization of a lot of things. With any luck, this will make it cheaper, and it will make it easier to fire folks who really suck at their job, which I am always a huge fan of.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah.

So, that happened, and at this point is bordering on old news, as I’m sure you all know by now that nothing we voted these people into office to do is covered under it.

I wish I was coming in here to tell you these things will eventually get passed or that there is a way to fix it, etc. But I don’t.

The fact of the matter is that 2018 is fast approaching and there is a chance at losing a lot of seats. To democrats. Which should not be the case, but it is, because the American people like to vote for one side, when they screw up vote for the other side, and when they screw up go back to the other side. As if this is going to miraculously solve all of our problems.

If you haven’t discovered yet that these people – big interests or not – don’t give a crap about us, you haven’t been paying attention.

The American people told them exactly what they wanted in the last election. We voted for all the stuff they left out and called a victory. We voted to do away with a lot of the stuff they funded and called it a victory. These people are standing in front of us, smiling, and calling another screwing of the American people a victory.

At some point, we need to organize the way the liberals do and protest en masse, or we need to suck it up, swallow our pride, and start voting third party.

I am registered as a libertarian, although I am not real happy with the party right now. Haven’t been for a while. I have never been registered anything other than libertarian or independent, and I will not support either of the two main parties. And this is why. Different cheeks, same butt.

So, as I keep saying… start getting out there. Memes aren’t going to do it. Start bombarding your reps on social media, mail, email, and even their fax machines. And maybe the time has come for us to take days off of work to go protest. We need to be heard, too. The liberals are hugging the coasts. We’re filling up the rest of the country. We aren’t in large group think clusters in big cities… we’re actually dealing with the crap end of the stick with these policies they refuse to defund, repeal, or fund. We’re the ones being screwed.

Whine, complain, and moan all you want. But it is far past time for us to do something. Our voices have been silenced and we can’t allow that any longer.

GOP Leaders Dropping Border Wall Funds, Says Report

Source: Breitbart

CHRISTIAN TORRES/AP

House Speaker Paul Ryan, in a statement to The Hill, seemed to concede that border wall funding would not be included in the GOP budget, saying the funds would come at a later date.

Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX) and Rep. Martha McSally (R-AZ) are the two Republican lawmakers teaming with Democrats to stop the funding of the border wall, despite both representing districts that share a border with Mexico.

“We recognize the need for robust border security and infrastructure to ensure public safety and increase cross border commerce,” Hurd and McSally wrote to the Trump administration in a letter, according to The Hill. “We also have an obligation to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars.”

Establishment Republicans in the Senate, like Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), are also teaming with Democrats to stop the border wall, with McCain worrying more about the sentiment that Mexicans have towards America.

“There is a lot of anti-American sentiment in Mexico,” McCain said during a Senate hearing with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary John Kelly. “If the election were tomorrow in Mexico, you’d probably have a left-wing, anti-American president in Mexico. That can’t be good for America.”

Thomas Massie has introduced a bill to audit the Fed, and it has a real chance of passing

Congressman Thomas Massie has put forth a bill to conduct a congressional audit of the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy. On Tuesday, it was approved by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform after less than half an hour of debate.

Good on them.

Massie’s bill would provide needed transparency to an institution that’s long been shrouded in mystery. The Federal Reserve implements monetary policy and interest rates, but for decades it has kept much of its operational policies secret. While the Fed is subject to GAO audits, it refuses to disclose the inner workings of its financial and monetary policies, publishing transcripts of policy meetings only after five years.

Trump’s EPA Grants Flint $100 Million To Fix Broken Water System

The Environmental Protection Agency awarded Michigan $100 million to help replace Flint’s badly eroded and damaged water infrastructure.

The funding was provided by the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act of 2016 and enables the beleaguered city to replace its decaying lead water pipes. Michigan is providing the required 20 percent match of $20 million.

The fix is part of the Trump administration’s goal of updating the country’s water infrastructure, EPA administrator Scott Pruitt said Friday in a press statement.

“The people of Flint and all Americans deserve a more responsive federal government,” he said. “EPA will especially focus on helping Michigan improve Flint’s water infrastructure as part of our larger goal of improving America’s water infrastructure.”

Michigan Democrats and Republicans praised the EPA’s decision to infuse money into the dilapidated city’s broken water supply.

It’s a good start. It will take a lot more money to fix the problem up there, and they need to get on it ASAP. But it’s something.

Gov. Brown Signs Next Sanctuary Bill, $115M Cut From Middle Class Education For Illegals Instead

The mind of a Democrat is painfully difficult to understand. They want to give absolutely everything they can to people that they view as less fortunate, without looking at the pros and cons of the situation. This includes illegal immigrants, despite the fact that the illegals shouldn’t even be in the country to begin with.

Nobody is better at helping out illegal immigrants at any cost necessary than California Governor Jerry Brown. This is a man that has spent $25 billion on illegal immigrant programs rather than helping fortify the infrastructure that is now failing in the state.

Even though fixing the failing infrastructure would only cost a fraction of what he spends on illegal immigrants, Governor Brown failed to do so, forcing nearly 200,000 people to evacuate their homes because of the Oroville dam disaster. What does Brown have to say for himself? Nothing, but his actions indicate that he is not done helping out illegal immigrants as much as possible.

In the process of helping them out, he is basically hurting the other legal citizens of the state. His newest act includes cutting funding offered to middle class students enrolled in college, while increasing the funding made available for illegal immigrant students.

Taxpayer-funded study asked if people could smell ‘asparagus pee’

dsc_0045A taxpayer-funded study set to find out if people can smell their own “asparagus pee.”

Researchers at Harvard on two active studies that received over $3 million last year surveyed nearly 7,000 people to determine if their urine smelled funny after eating the vegetable. The results were published in the BMJ scientific journal, which uses its final edition each year to publish articles that are “quirky, amusing, and creative—but all scientifically sound.”

The results concluded a “large proportion of individuals of European-American descent cannot smell ‘asparagus pee’—the unpleasant odor present in urine after people eat asparagus,” according to the T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

OK? And who actually cares about this?

We could have used that money to actually do something useful for society.
