The finger pointing and recrimination continues inside the Democratic Party as the reality of a looming Donald Trump presidency sinks in. And not all of it has to do with what went so spectacularly wrong with Hillary Clinton’s candidacy. The entire Democratic primary claimed a lot of victims, including the loss by Bernie Sanders and the ouster of former DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. Usually you hear Sanders supporters blaming Debbie for rigging the game against him, but in an interview with Vice News, she attempts to turn the tables, claiming that Bernie used her as a scapegoat. (Real Clear Politics)
DEBBIE WASSERMAN SCHULTZ: I will be frank with you. If I was trying to rig the outcome of the primary, trust me, I could have — there are so many things that we, not I, we could have done to enhance the campaign of one candidate over another…
It was mind-boggling to me that he was complaining about the number of debates. Because, things were going just fine [for him]. I think the Sanders campaign began to aggressively find a scapegoat to turn the attention away from mistakes that they made. And they did so successfully. But that’s okay.
Perhaps I’m a bit fuzzy on the definition of “scapegoat” but we don’t generally associate it with accusing someone of something they actually did. The details which emerged from that torrid affair went well beyond the fact that DWS scheduled the Democrats’ debates to be few in number and in time slots where the Home Shopping Network would give them a run for their money in the ratings. They were playing games with the campaign donations as well. Liberal outlet Daily KOS reported back in April that large dollar donations were effectively being laundered and flushed back to the DNC, primarily to Clinton’s benefit. And let’s not even get started on the Donna Brazile cheating scandal. If Debbie didn’t know about that (a dubious proposition at best) then the most we could say is that she was criminally incompetent rather than simply complicit.
Five weeks after Wasserman Schultz was forced to resign as chair of the Democratic National Committee due to hacked emails that revealed a preference for Hillary Clinton in the presidential primary, she prevailed over a Bernie Sanders’ supported challenger who sought to galvanize a constituency already furious with her leadership of the party.
Frickin’… how?! I have lost all faith in the voting public. This crazy person pretty much rigged the dem primary for president – plus she’s publicly crazy – and she still won? I’m sorry, but what the hell is wrong with you people? You voted for her because she was already there? Are you serious?
You’re fired. You’re hired.
A disgraceful POS hires a disgraceful POS. Are you surprised?
So her resignation was less of a punishment and more of a “I want to work with Hillary.” Good to know. Rig the system, win prestige. Welcome to the USA.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced Sunday she will soon step down as Democratic National Committee chairwoman, amid the fallout over leaked emails indicating an anti-Bernie Sanders bias in her operation — a stunning development just hours before the start of her party convention.
She will apparently step down at the end of the convention.
Sanders himself blasted the DNC and Wasserman Schultz in interviews Sunday, demanding her resignation as party chairwoman to boot.
“I think [Wasserman Schultz] should resign. Period. And I think we need a new chair who is going the lead us in a very different direction,” Sanders told ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday.
Play with the democrats long enough and you’ll eventually be scapegoated. She ran her mouth, but no one is going to tell me the primaries were not rigged for Hillary, and this one didn’t do it alone. She helped. But she wasn’t alone.
The move is in response to emails leaked late last week by WikiLeaks.
Approximately 20,000 DNC emails were shared with the public. A number of them paint staffers, including Wasserman Schultz, in a negative light by suggesting they were biased against Sen. Bernie Sanders. In one, Wasserman Schultz labeled Sanders’ campaign manager an “ass.” In another, she opined that he wasn’t going to become president, even before the process had been formally settled. Worse for her, she was presiding over senior aides who plotted to undermine Sanders, the emails reveal.
I’m not real sure anything in those emails was really news. It is very damning evidence, but let’s face it… Bernie won a few states that he didn’t get the delegates for. I’m not sure if he had that it would have made a difference for him, but the man was screwed either way. It was made very clear that Hillary Clinton was the chosen one, and nothing was going to stop that, including the voters. And there has not been a lot of public outrage about it. Yeah, I’m sure the outrage is there, but do you think the media is going to highlight that?
Something happened this weekend that’s bound to make our dear president very unhappy. You’ll love it.
As reported on CNN this morning:
President Obama suffered an “embarrassment” with the Democratic National Committee not passing a resolution over the weekend in support of his Iran nuclear deal, CNN panelists said Sunday.
According to the Washington Post, party chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D., Fla.) blocked the resolution at the summer meeting in Minnesota.Wait a second… did hell just freeze over? An area where we actually AGREE with DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz? (Even if her move was purely to protect her own political future with her largely Jewish constituency in South Florida.)
“The Obama-controlled DNC could not pass a resolution this weekend expressing support for President Obama’s Iran deal,” New York Times reporter Jonathan Martin said. “It’s a bit of an embarrassment for the administration seeing as it’s how his party, he appointed Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and it’s revived the sort-of latest round of eye-rolling among Democratic operatives about the state of the party.”
